INDIVIDUAL DECISION MAKING – MAT
Shared Decision Making …
Medication Assisted Treatment has been accepted by the medical community as an option for many individuals to sustain recovery. Unfortunately many individuals avoid asking about it or pursuing it as an option due to peers not supporting it. With recovery housing, many providers will not accept individuals receiving MAT. For current residents they will not seek information about MAT because it does not fit within the residence model and fear that they will have to leave. This leads to individuals avoiding the topic altogether and eliminating MAT as an option even though it may be the only one that works for them.
Whether a recovery housing provider agrees with MAT or not as part of their recovery housing model it is important that they share information and are open to being asked about it so individuals can make informed decisions based on their individual recovery needs.
